PROJECT NOTES

Steam Engine Fabrication

Workshop

Fabricating a steam-engine model through a supervised machining and fabrication workshop.

Completed a voluntary three-day practical fabrication workshop in a group of three, centred on manufacturing and assembling a small steam-engine model.

Processes used:

  • Metal lathe — facing, chamfering and component preparation

  • Milling

  • Brazing

  • Welding

The final morning focused on fitting the manufactured components together, resolving minor fabrication and fit issues, and completing the assembly.

All machining and fabrication work was completed under workshop supervision as introductory hands-on engineering experience, following a workshop safety induction.
